When will I receive a final bill from my old supplier?
When you switch to us we will ask for an opening read so that we can send it to your old supplier so that they can issue you a final bill. When we get this opening read we then send it to industry middlemen called a Data Collector (DC) and a Data Aggregator (DA) – this is to ensure that your old supplier agrees with the opening reads.
The DC & DA then check that these reads are in the predicted range, validate them and pass them on to your old supplier. Once we get the okay from them and confirmation the reads are good, your old supplier is then able to produce your final bill. This can take up to 8 weeks – it doesn’t usually take this long, but don’t panic if they haven’t received them right away.
If your old supplier is saying that we haven’t sent them the opening reads, this is usually because they are still being checked and validated, or that the old supplier doesn’t agree with the reads.
Don’t forget, we take payment for your energy upfront. This is different to older suppliers, some of which charge you for your energy after you've used it. If this is the case, it may feel like you are paying for the same energy twice. Don't worry about this, it'll only be in the transitional period and then you should be back to normal.
